Sometime in 2003 the editor for MODE Magazine spotted her in Manhattan who introduced her into the world of plus modeling.  She explored about it and started her journey in the modeling profession.

Joining the modeling industry was not an easy journey for her. She was not endowed with an ideal body type (six feet tall and size 12) that most agencies are looking for in a model.  She was 5’9 wearing a size 16/18 which was too short, too big or too exotic for the plus industry.  Modeling industry is a tough industry that one must be confident about herself to pursue a modeling career.  Perseverance and determination have made her become what she is today.

She has been modeling for Kmart, Catherines, Fashion Bug, Sydney’s Closet, Sears and with some German companies.   She had been in several campaigns, one with Monif C. fall campaign.  She was featured in IGIGI’s two short literary films honoring the curvy women. The first one was  in the film ‘16’, which tells the viewers that beauty is not confined to a specific size or shape.  The second one was in ‘Being You Is Beautiful’, (the sequel of ’16′) which reminds everyone that everybody is beautiful (that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes and forms).

Fluvia is one of those beautiful faces in the  modeling industry.  This beauty goes down deep through her sincere commitment to the plus size community.   In the midst of her successful and flourishing career in the U.S. and abroad, she never forget the women of Brazil like her, the plus size women in particular who lives in a superficial society with an unrealistic view of an ideal beauty.  In a 2008 interview with her by Plus Model Magazine she mentioned that society in Brazil makes you feel that wearing a size 16 is a national crime.  In fact, Brazil is known to be one of the popular leading cosmetic surgery travel destinations in the world.  Ironically, Brazilian culture is perfect body oriented, yet their genetic make up is not meant to be a size zero, although they do not necessarily meant to be overweight.

Her focus of concern is to reach out to those thousands of women in her own country who think of themselves as  inadequate by virtue of their size, to be an inspiration and a representation of their voice through media.   She writes a column for a magazine in Brazil on issues and concerns surrounding the full figured woman in the society. As she embraces her curves and loves her own skin, she sends her message across for a healthy living and self confidence through mass media.

Gracing the Beleza em Curvas, Fluvia Lacerda continues to be a trailblazer in the curvy revolution in her homeland and in the U.S.
