Chanel Resort 2011 Features Crystal Renn
May 24, 2010 No CommentsMr. Karl Lagerfeld, a chief designer and creative director of the world famous Parisian fashion Chanel S.A. popularly known as “Chanel” used to hate larger people. In an interview by a German Magazine Focus, he was quoted saying “Curvy women have no place on the catwalk”, and even went on saying “No one wants to see curvy women”. Surprisingly, after his comments were made known to the world, he photographed plus size models for magazines, and even places on the runway one of the most sought after plus models.

Chanel Resort show has always been a much awaited event for its grandiosity. The recent Karl Lagerfeld Chanel Resort 2011 Collection, on the French Riviera in Saint Tropez, France was a ground breaking one because of the notable appearance of Cyrstal Renn, a curvaceous model and author of a book “Hungry”. Mr. Lagerfeld sent Crystal Renn strutting down the catwalk in Saint Tropez, not once, but twice clad in his designs on barefoot.
Could this be a simple recognition of the plus world? Or could this be the beginning of integration of the plus world into the mainstream fashion? Cyrstal Renn is a fabulous model deserving to model for a world class fashion house like Chanel, a company that has had many high-profile celebrities as spokesmodels. But having modeled for a world renown fashion designer who has been known for his vocal opposition to plus models is a major breakthrough. Sounds interesting.
