All Walks Beyond the Catwalk celebrates diversity just last September 18, 2010 during the globally recognized event, the London
Fashion Week held at Somerset House. A British portrait and fashion photographer, Rankin was commissioned by All Walks to photograph a handpicked diverse set of models wearing the creations of some of the best and hottest British designers such as the labels of Giles Deacon, Vivienne Westwood, Betty Jackson, Hussein Chalayan, etc. All Walks is supported by London Development Agency and endorsed by British Fashion Council, the organizer of London Fashion Week.
Style and beauty know no boundaries. This is the message of All Walks, a fearless fashion campaign initiative founded in May 2009 by Debra Bourne, fashion guru Caryn Franklin and model Erin O’Conor featuring models with sizes 8-16, and aged between 18 and 65. The initiative brings together models of all colors, shapes, sizes and ages, trying to change young designers’ view towards size, color and age. It is an ongoing campaign to raise awareness, educate and celebrate the beauty of individuality and positive self image keeping in mind that no two bodies are the same. It highlights the idea that beauty, style and right attitude is what matters to the modeling world.
It is wonderful and inspiring to witness an eclectic set of models on the catwalk that includes a 65 year old model in her flowing gray hair to a curvy size 14 model, breaking the stereotypical ideals in the catwalk. It breaks the notion that a fabulous model is all about the skinny and young, but it is about being comfortable in your shape, age and skin.
