Plus Size Fashions – Shopping By Shape Will Save You Money & Time
September 2, 2009 2 CommentsShopping for baggy tent clothes don’t require much thought, you simply find something that has more fabric than a bed sheet and put it on thinking that it’s going to hide a multitude of flaws but in reality you wind up just looking like a slouch. Tent clothes have been the easy choice for far too long and I believe the reward you get out of something is generally related to the effort you put into it.
It’s true enough that in the past you had a right to complain about not having a choice but those days are disappearing fast and leaving you without an excuse to look and feel your best. Finding clothes that accent your positives while keeping your little secrets “Top Secret” requires you to learn something new about yourself. You need to know your body shape, what works with it and what works against it. The writer over at Igigi summed it up best;
“Shopping without knowing your body shape is like taking a test without studying.
Every woman has a particular body type that determines whether or not certain fashion styles look great on them or if it should even be avoided altogether. It can create anxiety and add disappointment in your shopping experience.”
With that being said I would like to recommend a couple of easy ways to get a general 
idea of what your unique body shape is. I want to share with you a couple of sites that have a simple yet effective way to determine what your body shape is and some ideas of how to dress that shape.
Igigi’s Shapestylist – Igigi breaks body types into 7 geometrical shapes and helps you to determine which one is closest to your shape by asking a few simple questions and then giving you the result. Once you’ve determined your shape the shapestylist articles will also help you determine how to properly dress that shape.
Joy Wilson’s Shape Guide – Another simple quiz type shape finder that breaks down 
body types into 3 fruits (apple, pair and strawberry) and 2 geometric, shapes hourglass and rectangle. At the end of the simple quiz, Joy gives you some ideas of what to and what not to wear.
Taking a little time now to learn your body shape and what works with it will save you both time and money later. Although I think we should feel comfortable in our own skin and not worry too much about what others think of us, I cannot deny the effect that wearing drop dead clothes has on my overall well being. So understanding which style of clothes makes me look and feel like a million bucks will ultimately save me big bucks in misguided purchases.

One of the biggest hurdles online plus size retailers face is educating their customers on shape and fit. I think that’s why so many manufacturer’s preferred to make “Tent” clothing in the past. To make a tent does not require the customer to learn anything about their body so the product was easy to understand. To make something look and fit right for a plus size woman is a real challenge, not because designers don’t know what they’re doing but because each design has to be designed with shapes in mind and unless the customer knows this they will waste time and money and that’s not good for customers or retailers.
