Body Shapes — The Pear Shaped Body or Triangle Shape
September 7, 2009 No CommentsIn a previous post I made the point that women need to know their unique body shape and that different body shapes require a woman to dress according to the features of her shape. I think this is especially true for plus size body shapes.
Today we will be covering the pear shaped body also known as a triangle body shape. If you are a woman with a pear shape body type then you most likely have prominent hips and thighs. Your upper torso is disproportionately smaller and your waist line is a big asset.
The pear shaped body types goal is to bring overall balance by choosing clothing that emphasizes your waist, bust and neckline while choosing skirts, dresses and pants that deemphasizes your hips and thighs.
What a Pear Should Wear
Do’s and don’t for Tops
- Do choose wide neckline tops that expose more of your shoulder and neck like Boat Necks, V-necks and Sweetheart neckline cuts. choose tops that are not too loose in the midsection to emphasize your beautiful waist line.
- Don’t choose tops with turtle necks or tight collars and lapels.
Do’s and don’ts for Skirts
- Do choose A-line and flared skirts that flare away quickly from the hips.
- Don’t Choose pencil skirts, tube skirts or any skirt that clings to your hip.
Do’s and don’t s for Dresses
- Do choose A-line dresses that flare away quickly from the waist with lowish cut necklines that are embellished to emphasize your top.
- Don’t choose clingy dresses, biased cut dresses or dresses with fluffy layering in the hip and thigh area.
Do’s and don’t s for Pants
- Do choose wide leg or flare pants in darker colors to de-emphasize your bottom half.
- Don’t choose skinny jeans, cargo pants with large pockets or pants that are bright colors or have button embellishments.
Remember to keep you emphasis on your top half and de-emphasize your bottom and thighs when choosing fashionable clothing for your pear shaped body type.
