Body Shapes – The Apple Shaped Body or Oval Shape
September 9, 2009 1 CommentAn apple shape body (sometimes called an Oval) has as it’s most prominent feature a pronounced tummy with little to no defined waistline. You generally have ample bust and average to pronounced shoulders. You have great arms that have an overall balance with your upper torso. Your lower body is a great asset to you with slender hips and shapely legs.
What an Apple Should Wear
Do’s and Don’ts for Tops
- Do wear tops with low cut necklines, V-necks and embellishments are great (anything that exposes the neckline). Wear longer length tops to pull eyes up and down rather than side to side.
- Don’t wear tops with turtle necks or high necklines. Stay away from tops that are too short or too loose unless worn with a nice wide belt.
Do’ and Don’ts for Skirts
- Do wear knee or calf length skirts. Add interest to your skirts with biased cuts and asymmetrical hemlines. You have beautiful legs draw attention to them.
- Don’t wear tight fitted or short skirts as they may tend to make you look blocky.
Do’s and dont’s for Dresses
- Do wear dresses with low necklines and empire cuts. Draw attention to embellished necklines. Choose colors of the same hue or prints that add vertical interest and draws the eyes up and down rather than side to side.
- Don’t wear dresses with clingy fabrics or that has designs or embellishments that emphasize your midsection.
Do’s and don’ts for pants
- Do wear semi low-rise pants with boot cut or flare legs to bring a flattering overall balance.
- Don’t wear wide pants, tapered pants or skinny jeans. Avoid high-waisted pants as they will bring emphasis too your tummy.
The goal for the Apple shape (Oval) is to bring attention away from the tummy and create an overall flattering vertical balance. Be sure to draw attention to your legs and upper torso.
