Become An America’s Plus Teen Queen

Now is your time to shine with Plus Teen USA, an exclusive pageant for plus size teens. Plus Teen USA invites plus size teens all across America who are qualified to enter as delegates to the Plus Teen USA Pageant, a recession friendly and internet based pageant. Delegates will positively represent plus size teens throughout their local communities as they compete for the title of Plus Teen USA, 2011! Deadline of entry submission is on September 1, 2011.

More than a competition and the fantastic prizes and opportunities that await the winning contestant, Plus Teen USA is a once in a lifetime experience embracing, celebrating, empowering, and transforming a plus size teen of today. Plus Teen USA Pageant promotes healthy living and self esteem while providing young ladies the experience and fun to interact, win friends and learn from like-minded youth, and a comfortable competition for plus size teens in the areas of beauty, fashion, modeling, and representation. It allows the plus size teens the opportunity to experience what the thinner teens are more privileged to experience.

Aspiring delegates to the Plus Teen USA should meet the following qualifications:

natural born female
age 13-19 (on October 15, 2011)
wears a dress size 12 (13 in juniors) on the date of entry
U.S. citizen and resident
good moral character
not pregnant during entry or reign if age 18 and unmarried
agree to fulfill PTUSA’s Titleholder requirements
join PTUSA’s Spark People Team
agree to allow PTUSA the right to use your name, photographs, essay, and any and all portions of the competition for publicity purposes in connection with PTUSA through any media online or offline.

Competition is based on photos, essay, appearances, and fitness efforts/achievements. Each delegate must become a member of Plus Teen USA’s President’s Challenge Fitness Team (Group #: 91642) and submit:

a completed application
clear and recent (within 6 months) photos- head and full body shot for inclusion on our website (20% of score)
up to a 500 word essay entitled, “Plus Teen In The USA” (20% of score)
essay submission form with sponsoring teacher’s (or other professional’s) contact information and signature
verification of a minimum of three (3) platform and pageant related appearances (50% of score)
three (3) letter of recommendation forms verifying your good moral character
a completed President’s Fitness Log/Award(s) (10% of score)
recession-friendly contestant fees: ONLY $129.00

After submission of full contestant fees, each delegate will receive by email (unless otherwise indicated):

a “Plus Teen USA” Certificate of Participation
a “Plus Teen USA Delegate” sash (by mail)
a sparkling crown (by mail)
a free entry in our 2012 Plus Teen Calendar Girl Contest
appearance verification forms
letter of recommendation forms
essay submission form

Packets containing essays and all required forms, log, and supporting documents must be sent to us BY MAIL, and must be received no later than October 1, 2011.

Five contestants garnering the highest overall scores will be selected by industry professional judges, who will then conduct interview, which will account for 50% of their final score. Four runner ups based on the highest overall scores, four runner ups and the winner will be selected on October 15, 2011.

About Me

I have been designing, manufacturing and retailing women's plus size clothing since 2004. In an effort to better

understand the women I design for I could not think of a better way to do that than to get involved with the issues effecting today's plus size woman. I live part time in my hometown of Poteau Oklahoma and the rest of the time in Davao City Philippines where we do most of the design and manufacture of our products. How I became a designer and how I landed in Davao City is a story straight out of a fairytale. I met my wife Carmen by chance in a chatroom while waiting for a client from my property management business. Carmen said "hello" and our relationship developed from there. I was visiting her in her hometown of Davao City when a little boy, merely 3 days old, was dropped on our doorstep. In the beginning I totally objected but my "soon to be" wife seen him as a gift from God since she could not have children of her own and I later came kicking and screaming into that reality. At first our plan was just to send support back to him (Daniel) as adopting a child from a forein country takes a lot of

time and money. After Carmen and I married we lived in the U.S. for about 4 month's and I knew she missed him terribly but one night I woke up and she was crying in her sleep and when I asked her why, she just stared at the ceiling for a moment and said "I really miss Daniel". In my heart I knew that she couldn't live apart from him and the decision to move to the Philippines seemed to be solitified in that one moment of clarity...but how do you support yourself and a family in a 3rd world country. We started small by selling anything we could online and eventually we seen a need in the plus size clothing market and began designing our own line which led to our own manufacturing company in the Philippines. Thus American Islander Garments Mfg was born. I never dreamed that I would be involved in women's plus size clothing nor that I would take up the banner for issues facing people of size. When examining where I stand with plus size activism I view myself more of an advocate than an activist hence the name "The Plus Size Advocate". Actually the name "The Plus Size Advocate" does not so much indicate who I am but mostly what this site is about "plus size advocacy". I do not pretend to know what it's like to be a plus size woman (as obviously I'm not). I have a BMI of 27 so I'm not "YET" considered obese according to federal guidelines so I don't know what it's like to be obese either. I do however have a strong opinion about the way human beings should be treated, which is with dignity respect and acceptance regardless of age, sex, race or size. My intention on this blog is to provide a platform for learning (for you and me) about plus size clothing, plus size politics, plus size opportunities and a safe haven for building confidence and body acceptance (not complacency).
