Edinburgh College Of Art Introduces The Use Of Plus Size Mannequins To Train Designers Of The Future

Kudos to Edinburgh College of Art for allowing their fashion students to use plus mannequins. The Edinburgh Evening News has recently announced that Edinburgh College of Art has become the first fashion school in the UK to introduce size 18 plus size mannequins to train the designers of the future.

Could this be an indication that plus size fashion is truly gaining recognition and foothold in the mainstream?

The Edinburgh Evening News mentioned that “ECA students have already designed regular and plus-sized dresses for a variety of live models to be unveiled at the official campaign launch in London this week and the college will soon receive its new mannequins.”

Co-founder Debra Bourne told the Evening News: “With many young designers, people cannot fit their arm into the armhole. This is not just anti-size zero.”

It is hoped that the initiative of using plus size mannequins in the fashion school allows fashion designers to always remember that the average British woman is size 16-18.
