PLUS Model Magazine as a team reaches out to the curvy community in an effort to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis and in search for the cure of the disease through the WALK MS initiative.
PMM is the premiere virtual magazine celebrating the plus size industry and for one weekend a year, the industry comes together to support those living with multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease in which the nerves of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) degenerate. It can range from relatively benign to somewhat disabling to devastating, as communication between the brain and other parts of the body is disrupted. The cause of multiple sclerosis is still unknown. Todate there is no cure yet for the disease although medicines as well as physical and occupational therapies may slow it down and help control symptoms.
The incidence rate of multiple sclerosis is inevitably increasing at an hourly basis every day. About 350,000 or 400,000 people in the US suffer multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is common to people between 20 and 40 or 50 years of age, but it may also occur in children and in the elderly.
In September 2007, Madeline Jones, the editor for PLUS Model Magazine was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Not allowing depression to consume her, she has decided to live her life every day to the fullest and be a blessing to others.
In the walk towards a world free from multiple sclerosis, Lane Bryant, the premier shopping destination for plus size clothing, joins the team as the official sponsor of this year’s PLUS Model Magazine WALK MS Weekend NYC and shall be hosting a Fund Raising Event on April 29, 2011 at the Pearl Lounge, 155 Eighth Avenue (bet 17th and 18th Streets) in NYC from 6pm – 10pm. The objective of which is to gather the plus size community to share information, network and help raise money. A number of designers and brands will be there at the event auctioning items and gift cards to support the cause. One of which is True Sheroes, a plus size empowerment company.
The fund raiser will be hosted by Shanda Freeman, the host of Shanda Says! and the Full Figured Fashion Week 2011.
Walk MS is set on Saturday, April 30, 2011 where the PLUS Model Magazine Walk MS shall assemble at 8:00 am at the South Street Seaport to register, create banners and get their team t-shirt provided by Lane Bryant.
