Mayor Gavin Newsom is serious in his agenda in the fight against obesity as well as health improvement of the residents  in San Francisco City.  Last April he issued an executive order that Vending machines in San FranciscoCoke, Pepsi and Fanta Orange are no longer allowed in vending machines on city property or public places.  Aside from sodas and sports drinks, the ban also covers artificially flavored water, and juice with added sweeteners.  Juice must be 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice with no added sweeteners.

The executive order was issued few months ago, but the effect of its impact has started to be felt only last  week where sugary drinks were officially taken out and replaced them with soy milk, rice milk, and certain diet sodas in vending machines on city property in San Francisco.

This move of Mayor Newsom is in support to the nationwide campaign of First Lady Michelle Obama to curb childhood obesity called the “Let’s Move” Campaign.

While the government is intensifying its fight against obesity, it is hoped that it will also take some actions how to extend special protection rights to fat people in the midst of the increasing size or weight discrimination. :-)
