If you have an overall equally portioned body shape you are considered a rectangle (or boyish shape). Rectangles generally have great legs, balanced thighs and great arms. You may have a moderate bust size and undefined waist, if so your biggest challenge will be to develop a curvy look.
What a Rectangle Should Wear
Do’s and Don’ts for Tops
- Do wear tops with low cut necklines, V-necks, scoop, boat necks and sweetheart necklines. You will do fine with frills, ruffles or spaghetti straps. Try layering your tops to form an illusion of a curvy waist and add volume to your bust area.
- Don’t wear baggy tops, short length tops or turtle necklines. Stay away from oversize tops without a wide empire belt to create a waist.
Do’ and Don’ts for Skirts
- Do wear A-line or flared skirts. Pencil skirts will work nicely to form a curvaceous lower silhouette. You have beautiful legs so draw attention to them.
- Don’t wear straight skirts as they do not create curves. Other than that your lucky, you can wear most any skirt with your body shape.
Do’s and dont’s for Dresses
- Do wear dresses that add volume to your bust. If you have a more prominent bust choose lower necklines, but if not choose higher necklines with a scoop, boat or sweetheart design. You can wear most any dress but try to choose ones that gives the appearance of a curvy waist.
- Don’t wear dresses that hang straight down.
Do’s and don’ts for pants
- Do wear skinny jeans or Capri. Choosing pants with button or embellishments around the hip area will add nice volume.
- Don’t wear straight pants or cargo pants.
The goal for the rectangle (boyish) shape is to add volume to your bust and hips while developing the appearance of a curvy waist. Be sure to draw attention to your amazing legs.
