Internet users are still on the rise worldwide. Email, networking, blogs, banking and other types of useful stuff that internet has to offer is now common place. How we access information, products and services is evolving yet again with handheld phones. Practically anything and everything you want is available online, even the proverbial kitchen sink, can be delivered to your doorsteps. This is good news for consumers, but it will leave a lot of ecommerce business owners scrambling to catch up if they are not ready.
It is estimated that today one-third of the population shops online. The phenomenal and unstoppable worldwide increase in the use of mobile communication devices has paved the way of expanding the online commerce from electronic commerce to m-commerce, resulting in more opportunities for e-merchants to sell their products and services via mobile devices. Mobile purchase allows consumers to shop online at anytime in any location taking convenience and multi-tasking to a whole new level.
The worldwide increase in the use of personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cellular phones allowed businesses to adopt m-commerce as a more efficient tool of reaching
and communicating to their customers. Instead of paper catalogues, retailers can send customers a list of products that the customer would be interested in, directly to their mobile device, or customer can visit a mobile version of a retailer’s e-commerce site. Additionally, retailers can track customers and notify them of discounts at local stores that the customer might be interested in.
Based on Juniper Research, one of the top 10 wireless predictions for 2010 is that “mobile social networking to integrate with other applications including m-commerce. It further says that “With mobile access to social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter commonplace, adding commerce capability is the next step and will commence in 2010. Viral marketing is something that marketers aspire to achieve and there is no better way of reaching that goal for those younger than 35 than through social networking on the move, featured already in many phones.”
Retailers should be smart to take advantage, and be innovative. They can maximize the use of social networking sites to respond to customers’ inquiries or get customers’ suggestions to improve their products and services.
Armando Roggio in his article dated July 7, 2009 published through “Practical Ecommerce insights for Online Merchants says that “In the evolution of modern shopping, consumers have very recently progressed from visiting a physical store every time they wanted to buy something to shopping online via a desktop or laptop computer, at least some of the time. The next evolutionary step will presumably have shoppers making more purchases online from mobile devices. These mobile shoppers will soon be buying flowers via an iPhone during a train commute, ordering a gift for a new client on a mobile internet device, in the back of an airport bound taxi, or shopping for movie memorabilia on a Blackberry while walking out of the theater.”
Roggio also wrote in his September 24, 2008 article that “9 million Americans have already made a purchase from a mobile device, and perhaps half of the United States’ 250 million odd mobile handset users are willing to make a purchase in the near future, according to a recent study from The Nielsen Company, New York, N.Y.”
In a Google news article, “phones are flooding the market and the latest research confirms that these savvy Internet surfers are using their phones to do some serious online shopping. According to the research just released from 2009 Surveys done by Compete about smart phone usage in the mobile commerce: the most popular shopping related activity is checking prices for items at their stores; the second most popular activity was accessing consumer reviews before they made a purchase; 37% of smart phone owners have purchased something non-mobile with their phone in the last 6 months; 19% of smart phone owners have purchased music; 14% have purchased movie tickets.”

It has been predicted that in 2010, US e-commerce merchants will generate between $120 billion and $200 billion sales, of which mobile commerce is only a small portion, but as mobile usage becomes mainstream, and as a variety of devices spreads out in the mobile web, online retailers should consider how much of their traffic and sales will come from mobile devices.
It had been reported that in 2005, online shopping sales in U.K. shot up to 8.5 billion pounds, accounting for 3.3 percent of the retail market, and by 2010 it is forecasted that online sales will triple to about 25 billion dollars, or 8% of retail spending. There is a considerable potential as customers becomes more confident in the security and services offered online, and as the use of online shopping technology becomes part of everyday life for which Mobile technology plays a significant role. Applications for the iPhone, such as Ocado on the Go, will make shopping on the move reality.
Last February 16, 2010, Business Wire reported that: “In 2015 shoppers around the world are expected to spend about $119 billion on goods and services purchased via mobile phones, which figure represents about 8% of the total e-commerce market.”Further, it says that “In the United states, mobile online shopping rose from $396 million in 2008 to $1.2 billion in 2009.
Growth of mobile commerce is inevitable. But how should online merchants take advantage and prepare their sites for this next big trend in online shopping? Also in the Google news article, “Compete says that mobile commerce is poised to explode in 2010, but there are still big obstacles in the way. Mainly mobile users are likely to abandon sites that are not optimized for phones. For example, 8% of users abandoned their purchase because they were unable to actually purchase it on their phone, 45% of them left because the site would not load, and 38% left because it was not developed specifically for smart phone users.”
Is your e-Commerce site not m-Commerce ready? Here are some useful steps to make your site mobile commerce ready:
- It is not sufficient for your site’s search to be accurate; it can also offer options and alternative spelling. Typing on a handset is a little more difficult than typing on a full-sized keyboard. For instance when you type “footb” the search field should suggest “football”. This saves the user from typing the entire word or phrase, a big help when typing on tiny keys.
- Develop mobile-friendly cascading style sheet (CSS) and domain for your website to enhance the shopping experience of your users. Most online stores are designed to look good on a modern-flat panel monitor, but may have diminutive dimensions. Even when using a mobile browser that is designed to provide a desk-top like navigating experience, shopping from a smaller screen is harder for your mobile customers because of the need to constantly zoom in and zoom out, and to scroll in all directions to see your products. Be sure to test your site on different types of mobile browsers
- There are some specific conversion issues that you need to consider to ensure that your website can be navigated properly from the smaller mobile handset screen before you can introduce your business as mobile-friendly. Many of the mobile browsers read and interpret the web site code. If you want a mobile commerce friendly site, consider removing code that a mobile phone might have difficulty with. This makes fast downloading of your pages and a clear view of your store.
- Prospective customers visiting your e-commerce site from a mobile device can utilize your existing shopping cart. They can key in their credit card number, shipping address, and generally completes the transaction just like any other site visitor. This may be enough, but offering a couple of flexible payment options may enhance your customer’s shopping experience. First payment option you can consider to offer is Paypal, Amazon Simple Pay, and Google Checkout, all these services allow your customers to purchase without the need to type in a credit card number. These services require extra steps to complete a check out process, but they are worth the effort because the customer no longer needs to submit a credit card number.
- Second option you can consider to offer is mobile-specific payment like premium SMS-based payments or direct mobile billing. Both of these options charge a customer’s mobile internet or phone bill for the transaction. The mobile service provider will notify the merchant that the transaction is complete.
- When your website becomes mobile-ready, add mobile-centric marketing to your marketing and advertising budget, which means you consider like SMS advertising, mobile search ads from Bing, Yahoo!, or Google, and even traditional advertising in locations frequented by mobile users, such as commuter rail stations or airports.
- Use this FireFox Addon to view your site on the different mobile browsers and be sure your site is mobile friendly.
Tip – After installing, set for iphone, then go check out Facebook, ESPN, etc. We’ve found that most big sites redirect to m.domainname.com.
As new generation phones embeds in the daily life of almost everyone whether in their business or personal activities (among them surfing, socializing, banking, communicating, online shopping), truly growth of mobile commerce is inevitable. Are you prepared for this?

Last month I watched a show with John Stossel and I just wanted to touch on a couple of points that were made on his show concerning people like Mimi Roth and others who want to use legislation to effect change in the foods that our society chooses to eat.
Below is the portion of the show that made the points that I want to cover. After you watch it, I would like to briefly discuss (or rant) about these points.
Point number one is the argument that some want to charge taxes on sodas and junk food to offset the cost of Medicare and Medicaid that your poor choices in diet costs others. Mimi Roth in an earlier segment made the point that she don’t want to control where you eat she just don’t want to be handed the receipt. Seems like a valid point. This point is actually, as stated in the segment above, an excellent argument against Government ran socialized medicine like Medicare and Medicaid. Why should Mimi or anyone else have to pay for other peoples poor food choices. So my question is why don’t people like Mimi Roth focus their efforts against socialized medicine rather than being a voice for taxing junk food?
We actually know that the proponents for regulating food would never side with less government involvement because the goal is to tackle the overall obesity in the U.S. with government regulation. How do we know…well because they often quote how successful their regulatory efforts were with their anti-smoking regulations in significantly reducing the number of smokers and they are now using this illustration as a lever to convince us that since it worked with smoking it will also work with food. Hence more government not less is the answer in their mind.
If their true concern is paying for my poor choices would it not make better since to attack the arm that forces you to pay for my choices rather than attack my right to free choice?
The second issue is the bleeding heart issue…the cause that no one can defend against…”We must do it for the sake of the children because parents are too stupid to make good decisions for them”. This is such a crock of crap that I don’t even know where to begin. I absolutely resent this line of reasoning and I see through it as if it were a squeaky clean glass. I hope that the days of falling for this bleeding heart parlor trick will soon be a thing of the past. Were all adults here…right? So we need to stand up against anyone who tells bleeding heart stories in order to effect the outcome of any issue that requires reason rather than sappy emotions….PLEASE!
Tell me one child who the government loves more than the parent. I guarantee you it’s not the case. Please don’t tell me that someone setting in any office in Washington D.C. cares about my son or daughter more than me! Am I saying here that there is no such thing as a bad parent…of course not. What I am saying is there is NO SUCH THING AS A BENEVOLENT GOVERNMENT.
If you ask me my children’s birth date, I don’t have to look it up in a computer to tell you that. If you ask me if my son or daughter likes spinach I can tell you that. I know almost every freckle on their body and yet they would have me to believe that a government official cares more for my child than I do….Ridiculous!
We know that some parents don’t care for their children the way they should. So does that mean that the rest of us should move over and give way to the Nanny state for the sake of the few, that we should give up more freedom of choice? I have long since realized it is fool hearted to think that man can be perfected through governance and no government (regardless of intention) can take care of me better than I can take care of myself or my children. I don’t need outside interference limiting my ability to provide in the form of a government or by some self appointed do gooder.
I personally believe that for politicians this is less about saving our children and more about using this issue as a vehicle to gain more power over the people of a free nation. And for the Mimi Roth’s of the world I think its a way to bring meaning to their lives, more related to purpose of life or career choice than to benevolence.
Nick Gillespie of Reason.com said people like Mimi Roth and some of the other guests of John Stossel believe “Fat people, poor people and other classes of people make bad decisions defined as I know the good decisions and if people aren’t following my decision making process then we need to nudge them, we need to control them, we need to regulate them”. So what do you say? Is our future better off in the hands of a few people who obviously think we are too stupid to make good decisions for ourselves or our children or are you the best resource of you and your children’s future?

Corsets are a timeless fashion used by powerful women in the past eras to express their powerful stature, something that they cannot live without. This blatant fashion statement has been passed on from generation to generation, and is being enjoyed today by many women in the world. Many international women celebrities in the current pop culture have made corsets as a staple in their wardrobes. For the past two decades they have repeatedly brought the corsets out into the fashion world and into the limelight. In different occasions they display their corsets in elaborate and trendy designs and materials, whether a leather corset for an erotic spectacle on stage, beaded one for the Red Carpet, or lacy and casual for dinner with friends, the image goes back to one of the most powerful women, Queen Elizabeth I of England who dresses herself in beautiful corsets. It may not be the intention of these celebrities to be associated with powerful women in the past eras but, this fashion statement not only speaks of their prominence, but can also be a powerful tool for her expression.
Corset, though a simple item of clothing, had its share of controversy. Historically, corsets speak of a conservative male oppression of women. Young girls were put in corsets to grow accustomed to restrictiveness binding. In present time fashion designers less likely care about its symbolism of male dominion over women, but in the trend of
time, it has become for them a timeless fascination of shaping the female body into a beautiful curvy look, and for the wearers to exude a supreme form of confidence and feminine expression. Also, there are others that don’t care about its cultural history or its ability to shape a body. For them corset is an ideal under-garment supporting the back in a comfortable manner – a very practical fashion sense.
In the present time, we see plus size corsets as elegant, ultra alluring, and sophisticated fashion that is available in various styles and colors fabricated from all sorts of materials. As time evolved, corsets have developed to become distinct from the 16th and 17th century. Today, these are available in different sizes, from small to 3X and above. They are now worn as outerwear together with jeans in casual or special setting, or even glamorized as evening attire. They have also evolved into becoming a bra. Also, corsets are commonly used as lingerie designed to be comfortable and easy for the wearer to get in and out of.
Fascination with these garments had been confirmed in recent corset news. In the fashion world, corsets are not just sexy fashion; they have become a very profitable undertaking. Celebrities have custom designed embellished leather corsets, and those made from other rare and artistic materials auctioned for $1000 and above for the benefit of charitable undertaking.
Leather corsets or those made from classic lace or racier PVC are popular today in the lingerie fashion. They come in various styles and sizes. Like their outerwear counterparts, numerous designs are available to emphasize the curves of the female physique. They are carefully designed to satisfy the wearer. Other details and options were added to a modern lingerie corset. Many are lined with silk or satin. Some have optional G-strings and detachable garters; some have front zippers, lace up backs, hook and eye front closure, and adjustable shoulder straps. Lycra is sometimes added to give more comfort to the wearer.
The powerful women of the past eras may or may not have regarded corsets as a must in their wardrobes. But for the women of today, modern corsets (from the simplest to the most intricate) have become a powerful tool to express their womanhood.

Are you feeling bad and think you cannot be fashionable because you were not endowed with a slender body? Are you thinking you cannot find clothing perfect for your body shape? This is no longer true. Although the fashion industry once was overly focused on the slim, slimmer and slimmest, they are beginning to realize the error of their ways.
Literally more than one-half of America’s population is composed of plus size people, yet they were the most neglected group of clientele in relation to fashion industry. Clothing companies then centered their creations on the young and those endowed with slender bodies. But don’t worry, various clothing companies have realized that there is one group of clientele, the plus sized, that have been neglected with regards to their fashion and clothing needs. They have evolved to expand their clothing business to plus sized fashion. They have started to create trendy and elegant clothing lines for all shapes and sizes. And they also realized that people of larger sizes have the money to spend on their designs.
Despite of this evolving trend in plus size fashion, plus sized men and women still find difficult to shop for their clothing
needs. Maybe this is okay for most men but not for women. The problem is that most women are fashion and style conscious but have few places to fulfill their plus size clothing fantasies. This is because most Plus Sections at the major department stores do not offer a wide selection of clothing lines. Plus sized women are left with few choices except the “not so much in style fashion.”
If we cannot find what we need from the Plus Sections of the department stores, there’s one great solution to this problem. Thanks to fast-paced technology we have been brought to a higher level of shopping, “on-line shopping” through your desktop, your laptop and now even from the palm of your hand. You can now shop anywhere, any moment at your most convenient time and place. There are lots of places you can visit online where you can find the best buy for you.
You can even find a few major department stores through their own websites that displays a wider and larger selection of beautiful plus size clothing than they do in their actual store location. There are also great places like Ebay and many independent online stores you can visit to find fashionable and elegant women’s plus size clothing.
You can be fashionable regardless of your body shape and size. Plus sized individuals can become fashionable if they desire. As mentioned, many clothing companies have evolved to respond to the needs of the plus sized. Wide selections of beautiful plus size clothing are available for you online. You name it, you have it. You can now finally get away from your old style fashion and embrace a new “fashionable and elegant you” despite your size. You no longer need to worry about what to wear to any special event like weddings. You can strut your stuff with confidence.
What you’ve got to do is search online for your clothing requirements. You can have anything you need online from swimwear to casual to seasonal clothing, and to any special occasion or event like weddings or proms. So come on, enjoy “shopping online”. On the go or in the comfort of your bedroom, you’re going to have a great time discovering a more “elegant you”.
